What does being part of the Third Space Symposium look like?
The Third Space Symposium (3SS) is all about exploring the many facets of work and life as a third space practitioner in tertiary education. This is not a stuffy scholarly conference with double-blind peer reviewed papers and keynote speeches. This is about sharing ideas and talking through curly questions using all the tools in our toolkit. More than anything we want to start finding answers to the questions affecting how we work in the third space and what we can do to make it better.
As such, for the Slowposium particularly (15-30 Nov) what we want more than anything are conversation starters - about any aspect of the third space experience at all. Think of a topic or a question and think of a way to spark an informed discussion of it in our community. You could provide a relevant article, blog post, podcast, video interview, interpretive dance piece (this is possibly a stretch), interactive media or anything. We place it into the Slowposium platform, add it to the program and you (or someone) looks after a discussion in a dedicated forum thread. (We are also open to synchronous sessions)
For the in-person Symposium (Sun 1st Dec) we are probably looking at more conventional session proposals - short presentations, discussions/panels, pecha kuchas etc - but again are open to other ideas. (Probably not 4 hour workshops)
We have a host of topic ideas and suggestions on the 3SS website - and please feel free to share your comments/thoughts in this post as well.
Calling for volunteers
As preparation for the Third Space Symposium ramps up, the organising committee calls for your assistance in completing the many tasks needed to make this event a success.
We are organised into four main working groups – Communications, Event, Online and Program. The Comms group is responsible to generating interest, submissions and registrations. The Event group will ensure that things run smoothly on the day of the in-person Symposium (Sun Dec 1). The Online group will look after our Slowposium platform (on Moodle) and the Program group will review and manage submissions. These are some of the things that we are looking for people to assist with:
Communications:
· Conversation starter content creators
· Comms assets creators
· 3SS update (newsletter) authors
· Social media post creators and amplifiers
Event:
· Guides/Greeters
· Reception
· Runners
· Photographer/Videographers
· Soc media updates
· Registration processing
Online:
· Slowposium Moderator/facilitator (Discussions or events – November 15 – 30)
· Trainer/support (Use of platform/tools)
· Moodle admin support (including account creation)
Program:
· Submission reviewers
· Session chairs/moderators
If you think of other things that you would like to help with, there is an option to add them on the volunteer register too.
Stay tuned for more exciting news about the Third Space Symposium soon!
Cheers
